Skyfive and Akses Prima Indonesia Deliver Air-to-Ground Solutions for Inflight Connectivity in Indonesia

Jakarta (4/3) – As a strategic step to enhance inflight connectivity services, PT Akses Prima Indonesia (API), a provider of telecommunications solutions and technology in Indonesia, and SkyFive, a global leader in Air-to-Ground (A2G) solutions, today announced the signing of a partnership between the two companies. The collaboration aims to implement and operate A2G solutions in Indonesia, one of the largest, fastest-growing, and least connected aviation markets in the world.

A2G is a wireless technology that extends broadband networks from the ground using antennas pointed towards the sky, covering airspace up to cruising altitudes of 10–12 km. API has submitted a spectrum application to the relevant authority, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (“Komdigi”), to support the development of A2G in Indonesia.

The A2G network will be developed in stages, starting with high-traffic domestic routes. Coverage will then be expanded progressively until it spans the whole of Indonesian airspace. Thanks to the latest long-range A2G technology, the network will also cover the vast waters separating the main islands, ensuring seamless internet access across the archipelago.

API will pioneer inflight connectivity services in Indonesia and will continue to work with airlines to ensure a comprehensive service for Indonesian air passengers. The partners are targeting the first equipped aircraft to be in operation in 2025.

Aswan Hamonangan, Chief Executive Officer of Akses Prima Indonesia, said, “At Akses Prima, we are committed to revolutionising connectivity. Our collaboration with SkyFive enables us to bring cutting-edge technology that will significantly improve the passenger experience and set a new standard for inflight communication in the region.”

Thorsten Robrecht, Chief Executive Officer of SkyFive, added, “We are excited to bring A2G to the rapidly growing airline market in Asia-Pacific with an experienced and focused partner. Indonesia, with its busy airspace and digitally savvy population that wants to be connected everywhere, is an ideal region for our solution, both technically and commercially.”

At roughly two-thirds the size of the European Aviation Network, the Indonesian network is not only iconic but also a significant expansion of global A2G coverage. Built on open standards, it will be fully compatible with other SkyFive A2G networks around the world.

SkyFive and Akses Prima Indonesia (API) today announced a strategic partnership to develop Air-to-Ground (A2G) solutions in Indonesia. The collaboration aims to bring inflight connectivity services to the largest airline passenger market in Southeast Asia.
